DOLPHIN Splashdown is the latest in a series of books with the tagline "Think before extinct", produced in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund to get children thinking about the problems facing some of our planet's most endangered species.
Here we renew our acquaintance with Emily, whose parents work for the WWF. While swimming off the coast of Mexico, Emily befriends a baby dolphin called Coral. When Coral gets caught in a fishing net, it's a race against time to save here.
My daughter had already read a previous book in the Wild Friends series (which also features pandas, tigers, snow leopards, polar bears and elephants) and enjoyed this one immensely. Not only is it a great adventure story, but while creating an emotional connection with an individual animal, it also got her thinking about the wider issues relating to the species as a whole.
With puzzles and information at the back about the WWF's work, it's much more than just a good read.
WWF Wild Friends: Dolphin Splashdown, Book 7 in the series (Random House, £4.99).
