WANTING to change your look can happen any time, whatever your age, and for whatever reason: unhappy relationships, break-ups, pregnancy or weight gain or loss.
Sometimes you don't want a full-on overhaul, just a few tweaks to enhance your image - a kind of personal spring clean.
Ceril Campbell, author of Discover The New You: Celebrity Secrets To Transform Your Life, has studied our need to turn over a new leaf.
"I've listened, watched and learnt about my clients' feelings about their body shape issues, self-doubts, lack of self-esteem, confidence, relationships and all the facets of how they feel about themselves and how others see them," she says.
"Looking good is not simply about being fit, stylish or wearing the latest designer label, but about attitude, confidence, and feeling good within. You don't have to be perfect to make the most of yourself."
We should be harsh when clearing out our wardrobes, Ceril says: it makes no difference where you bought your clothes from.
"It's all about whether you actually wear these items and if they really work for your body shape, colouring and lifestyle," she says.
"True style is being able to throw together any mix of clothes, making them look great on you."
She recommends chucking out anything that is too big or too small, old but not old enough to be considered vintage, tired, stained and unfashionable.
"It would be better to have a few things that you really do wear than masses of clothes that you never wear," she adds.
WARDROBE DILEMMAS: YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
"I look through my wardrobe every day and although I have lots of clothes, I have nothing to wear!" Ceril says: "It's not necessary to keep replacing your wardrobe each season unless you're super-rich and live that sort of lifestyle. But chuck anything you don't feel suits you - and be harsh with yourself.
"If you have an item of clothing that has hung in your wardrobe unworn, get rid of it and replace it with something that works."
"I'm going for a job interview but I don't know what to wear. Please help." Ceril says: "You have 30 seconds to create that crucial first impression. Find out exactly what employees are likely to wear in the workplace of the job you're going up for. Dress as though you are already working in the company.
"You don't have to wear a suit to look professional. Team soft unstructured separates like cardigans and wrap-over jackets with skirts or trousers. Clean, tidy and groomed is the most important."
"I would like to inject some glamour into all my outfits." Ceril says: "Glamour is about really owning the look. It's about feeling drop-dead gorgeous and feeling and looking sexy. You don't have to wear a revealing dress that lets it all hang out - it could even be chic and black - but the dress has to be worn with confidence, great posture and attitude."
"I don't want a visible panty line but I don't like wearing thongs. And don't hold-in' knickers make the flesh go elsewhere?" Ceril says: "Buy knickers a size or two larger than your usual size. Even if you hate accepting that you bought a large size - cut out the label straight away - you will have less visible lines.
"Boy shorts and French knicker styles won't give you a VPL. As for control pants, if you buy the right size, there should be no overspill of flesh. High-waisted styles can help."
