REVELLERS in Worcester are being warned to make sure they get all that they pay for in pubs in the run-up to the new year.

A recent undercover inspection undertaken by Trading Standards officers from Centsa's Metrology Group found that about 14 out of 43 premises tested in England were failing to give the correct quantity of spirits to their customers. Two out of seven pubs tested in Worcestershire were also found to be failing to serve sufficient measures.

Officers found that, on average, a drink was being overcharged by 16p with the greatest overcharge being 52p.

Coun Derek Prodger, cabinet member for the environment, said: "These results are very disappointing and I would urge local bars and pubs to ensure that people are getting a fair deal by ensuring their staff are trained properly."

The survey, which looked at spirits measured by thimble-style measures instead of spirit-measuring instruments, checked that the correct quantities of gin, whisky, rum and vodka were being sold.

As a result of this inspection, some premises face possible prosecution for offences under the Weights and Measures Act 1985.
