THE musical director of a Worcester choir for young people has issued a rallying call for singers to unite in a bid to keep the group going.

Worcester Young Voices, formed last October for children of all backgrounds and abilities, needs to increase membership, says musical director Carol Green.

Despite recruiting about 40 members, the choir is targeting 50 full-paying singers by the summer to cover the costs of running the group.

Mrs Green said: “There are so few singing options for children in this county.

“We are passionate about this project and want to see it grow so will be able to undertake exciting programmes and concerts in the future.

“There are no auditions and people can come along for a few weeks before signing up.

“We do ultimately want to train people to a high standard, but we are happy to take people of all abilities and we sing a broad range of contemporary and traditional songs.

“We need more paying members to cover costs like room hire and paying for the pianist among other things.”

The choir, based in St George’s Square, runs in conjunction with school term times, with the first workshop taking place on Saturday, January 11. 

Membership costs £40 for a full term, or £20 for a half term.
