A WORCESTER school will be turned into a planetarium as part of two free star-gazing events.

Staged in conjunction with Worcester Astronomical Society, the free Stargazing Live events will take place at Bishop Perowne CE College in Merriman’s Hill Road on Friday, January 10 and Thursday, January 16.

The school hall will house an inflatable planetarium on the Friday and from 7.30pm to 10pm, members of the public of all ages can learn more about astronomy and enjoy planetarium shows and talks. They will also be given a free guide to the night sky.

A telescope workshop for new and lapsed observers will be held on the Thursday from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, with tea, coffee and biscuits provided.

Society member Michael Morris said he hoped people would be inspired to go because of three events being broadcast on BBC Two.

He said: “More than 200 people attended our public observing event in 2013 and the telescope workshop is now in its sixth year.

It gives people who've received a telescope as a Christmas gift or have one gathering dust in the attic the chance to gain the maximum benefit from it.”
