BY ANNA GRIFFIN (aged eight)

Set in Victorian England, Diamond is the latest in the popular Hetty Feather Series.

This is the story of a girl with a tragic past, who loses her mother during the birth of her younger brother, Johnnie. Sadly, her father blames his wife’s death on Diamond and sells her to Beppo, a clown in Tanglefield’s Travelling Circus.

From this point, the story is set in the big top where Diamond’s act steals the show. She strikes up a friendship with Hetty Feather who wants to join the circus as the new ringmaster. Hetty is a bit cheeky with the creator of Tanglefield’s circus, Mr Tanglefield and demands advanced pay so she can make new costumes for the actors! Madame Adeline and Mr Marvel are old acts, who retire as there are new acts taking their place and they feel too old to keep going.

Towards the end of the book Hetty and Diamond decide to run away as they don’t like the way that Beppo and Mr Tanglefield are treating them. They see a poster for a music hall and think it might be fun to join.

I have enjoyed reading this book as much as I did the rest of the Hetty Feather series. I love the character of Hetty, as she is very cheeky at times! I think that Diamond will still be featured in the next book as she and Hetty are now good friends!

The end of this one left me hoping that there will be another in the series very soon.

If you are looking for a new book that will keep you entertained, then I would definitely recommend Diamond!
