IT is not yet known what caused a fire that gutted a sports and social club in Worcester.
More than 50 firefighters tackled the blaze at the empty Westside club in Hylton Road after receiving reports that it was on fire at 11.45pm yesterday.
Noone was injured in the incident.
Crews from Worcester, Malvern, Droitwich, Pershore, Upton-upon-Severn and Bromsgrove were called to the burning building along with a specialist command support unit, but the club suffered severe damage.
Hereford and Worcester Fire Service's divisional officer Paul Amos said: "The fire was pretty well advanced when we arrived and we worked hard to confine it to 50 per cent of the building and prevent it from spreading elsewhere.
"Next door there were some articulated lorries which were at risk but we managed to stop the fire spreading to them."
Firefighters with breathing apparatus took three hours to put out the flames and used water from the nearby River Severn and hydrants.
Police were also called to the building and have appealed for anyone with any information to contact them on 08457 444888 or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
