BY ANNA GRIFFIN (aged 8)
It’s Christmas time at City Zoo and this year, Santa’s Grotto has been set up next to the penguin enclosure. Rory the Rockhopper penguin and Blue the Fairy penguin are determined to show Big Paulie - the boss of the penguins- that the non-flying birds should celebrate Christmas as well. As usual, the penguins get into some sticky situations on their adventures.
This story is mainly set away from the zoo after the fairy penguins, Rory, Blue, Muriel, Hatty and Brenda, become stowaways on board Santa’s sleigh and find themselves in a nearby school, where he is giving out presents. Here the penguins find out the true meaning of Christmas.
I really enjoyed reading this book because the writing is very humorous and there are also pictures which really fit with the story and help bring it to life. My favourite character is Blue, because she is a courageous, determined and friendly penguin. The funniest penguin is Muriel, as she tries all sorts of funny things, such as going into the lost property to get some socks for stockings.
This book is aimed for children who are 7 and over and I would definitely recommend putting it on your Christmas list.
