THOUSANDS of older drivers in Worcester may be paying over the odds for their car insurance, Age Concern has said.
With many older people unable to pay the annual premium up front, they could be forking out for expensive instalment deals to keep themselves on the road.
With extra costs that may not always be obvious to the consumer and a third of insurers' websites not providing information about monthly payments, Age Concern Worcester has warned that many older people may be misled into paying over the odds when cheaper deals are available.
Age Concern does not charge extra for paying motor insurance premiums by instalments.
Roger Davidson, at Age Concern Worcester, said: "Charging up to 25 per cent more for people who pay by instalments is simply unfair to the millions of older drivers on restricted incomes.
"But with the vast majority of insurers imposing at least some element of extra cost, many older people may not be aware that there are interest-free instalment deals on the market. Age Concern Insurance Services does not charge extra for paying by instalments because it firmly believes that older people should not be penalised if they can't afford to pay for their insurance in one go."
