DETECTIVES were today still investigating the possibility that a baby's body has been dumped on a Worcestershire rubbish tip.

Officers spent today consulting experts to determine if they should search the Hill and Moor landfill site, near Pershore.

A spokeswoman for West Mercia Constabularly, said no decision had yet been made, but confirmed discussions were due to continue tomorrow to decide if and how to search the site.

As reported in the Worcester News yesterday, police sealed off the landfill site on Saturday night after reports a baby's body may have been disposed of.

Their investigation began after a teenager being treated at Hereford County Hospital was discovered to have given birth earlier this month.

The site, in Lower Moor, is the location for all non-recycled household waste collected from homes in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Police have refused to say if they believe the body had been taken to the site or had been disposed of with household waste and collected by binmen.

A spokesman said officers were investigating the possibility that the baby's birth was concealed and were yet to confirm if there even was a body.

However, Monday the tip was closed to the public, causing delays to rubbish collections throughout parts of Worcestershire because bin lorries had to be diverted to Hartlebury and closing other tips in the county.

Police spokesman Neil Tipton said officers had closed the entire landfill site early on Sunday morning, although some parts were reopened yesterday.

Mr Tipton said the girl had not been arrested but was helping police with their enquiries.
