VANDALS destroyed two valuable golf buggies during a late-night rampage at Worcestershire's oldest golf course.
A shed at Worcestershire Golf Course, in Wood Farm Road, Malvern Wells, was broken into in the early morning and three buggies worth £1,000 each were stolen and driven around the course, causing extensive damage to the surface, verges, bunkers and fences.
Club secretary Terry Smith said this was the second time the shed had been broken into in the space of a week, although nothing had been taken the first time.
“This time they managed to take them out and completely write-off two of them,” he said.
“One of the buggies was set alight while the roof was smashed off another. The third ended up in a pond.
“All that’s left of one of them is an engine and some bits of metal.
“They even chucked a memorial bench for one of our members on the fire to get it going.”
“Maybe this might stir the conscience of a few parents who might think about where their little brats were that night,” he said “We’ve stepped up the security so this won’t happen again.”
Worcestershire Golf Club was founded in 1879 and is the oldest in Worcestershire.
Police are appealing for information as they continue to investigate the criminal damage, which could cost the club at least £8,000.
A West Mercia Police spokesman said: “Having taken the three buggies, it appears the offenders drove them recklessly around the course and caused damage to a number of items of property including flag sticks on six greens and fencing in several places.
“After the offenders had finished with the buggies it seems they were then dumped.
“One was found in a pond on the course, a second was found damaged beyond repair and the third buggy was discovered burnt out and completely destroyed.
“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have information that could aid their investigation into it.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting incident number 65S 291013.
