PEOPLE have been urged to be vigilant against bogus callers after a man claiming to be from a meter reading service targeted a house in Kidderminster.
The man showed identification and was taken to the meter in the cellar but the householder become suspicious and alerted police.
A police spokesman said: "Officers have checked with the meter reading service and the incident is now being treated as a bogus caller. It is possible the man has struck elsewhere and we would appeal to anyone with information to contact us."
The incident happened at about 1.30pm on Thursday, December 14 at a house in Offmore Road.
The man was white, aged 40 to 50, with dark hair and wearing a t-shirt with a logo and black trousers. He drove away in the direction of Birmingham Road.
Officers have advised homeowners to check with the organisation a caller claims to represent before letting them in and to contact police if they see anyone suspicious in their neighbourhoods.
Anyone with any information about the bogus caller can call police on 08457 444888 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
