ONCE she has the bit between her teeth and the beast firmly between her knees, Hannah Kinsey is a girl known to ride a strong finish.

So it's no wonder the girl jockey who has brought her own brand of blonde glamour to the point-to-point courses of Worcestershire and Herefordshire is enjoying herself in her first role as a calendar model.

As Miss January in The Form 2007, she is wielding her racing whip and giving the backside of some unfortunate/fortunate young man a right what for.

It's all in a good cause, of course, and by the look on Hannah's face she enjoyed it too.

After all, when you are used to gripping with the knees and powering half a ton of horse flesh across the finishing line, 11 stone of pin-striped trouser is no problem.

At this time of the year, themed calendars have become all the rage. But this one is rather different from the usual "the lads/girls get their kit off" in aid of whatever.

It's all the idea of publisher Nicholas Whittle, who came up with the brainwave of enlisting famous and photogenic female personalities from the horse racing world and getting them to pose in, shall we say, unusual circumstances.

Hence you get Catherine Dettori, wife of the ebullient Frankie, being re-shod' by a brawny young blacksmith or Emma Spencer, champion lady amateur jockey and wife of champion jockey Jamie, posing against a sleek aircraft.

The theme of every shot has a horsey connotation - Catherine's is Horseshoe and Emma's Horsefly, for example.

Hannah's pushes the boat out a bit further. It's called Horseplay.

"I was actually among a party on a boat on a lake with Nick Whittle when he took a phone call that I think set up the idea," she said. "Because he turned to me and asked if I would take part. I wasn't really sure what I was getting myself into."

Now the whole racing world and many outside know what was going through Nick's mind.

The result kicks off the calendar - which supports the Countryside Alliance - and will ensure Hannah receives an enthusiastic welcome at point-to-point courses across the country.

She comes from a family who are well known owners, breeders and trainers of National Hunt horses and began riding almost before she could walk.

After progressing through all the usual Pony Club showjumping and eventing activities, she started race riding six years ago and now lives with her boyfriend, three times champion point-to-point jockey Richard Burton, near Chester.

By day Hannah is an interior designer, working for a company called Horton & Co, which specialises in upmarket private homes.

Although she can't quite match Richard's tally of wins, the 26-years-old has ridden enough winners of her own to make her a serious name in the changing rooms.

"I've ridden at all the courses in Worcestershire and Herefordshire, apart from, I think, Upton," she said. "In fact, the track at Chaddesley Corbett is probably my favourite in the whole country. It's usually quick and it's quite tight."

She's ridden a winner there too, which always adds to the appeal of a place.

Last season, Hannah broke an ankle in a freak fall only a week after winning a race at Eyton, near Shrewsbury, but had obviously recovered her full form by the time of The Form photoshoot.

So to whom does the pert backside belong that she is tanning?

"Well," she explained, "it was going to be Richard, but for various reasons he couldn't take part, so my brother William took his place."

When I told her that ladies of a certain age here had gone weak at the knees at the sight of the proffered botty, she roared with laughter.

"He'll love that. Oh, he'll just love that," she said. Trust your sister to drop you in it.
