A MISCHIEVOUS-looking gnome drawn by a schoolgirl will adorn posters for an orchestra’s concert for children.

Conductor Keith Slade selected Oldbury Park Primary School pupil Harriet Guest’s picture to feature on the posters because it depicted the character perfectly.

Pupils at the Worcester school had been played music from Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf during special sessions with the conductor.

The key stage two pupils were then asked to use their imagination to draw pictures based on the different movements.

Mr Slade said: “Gnomes are always up to mischief and I thought Harriet’s design had a wonderfully mischievous face.

He is ideal for the poster because Harriet’s done such a wonderful drawing.

“All of the pictures were fantastic and were of a very high standard. There was so much imagination from the children who obviously knew the pieces of music very well.”

The 10-year-old’s picture is now on display to advertise the concert taking place on Saturday at St Martin’s Church, London Road, from 4pm.

As well as Pictures at an Exhibition and Peter and the Wolf, there will also be a performance of Rossini’s The Thieving Magpie.

Mr Slade added: “It’s a really fun concert and it is amazing to see how the children sit there completely absorbed.

“It is very easy listening music and people shouldn’t be frightened of coming along and introducing themselves and their children to something like classical music.”

Tickets, available on the door, cost adults £10 with one free child ticket per adult.

Additional children are £5 and adult concessions are £8.
