A MAN in his fifties suffered serious facial injuries after he was punched, kicked and stamped on during a “nasty” gang attack in Malvern.

The attack happened at around 3.15am on Sunday morning (27 October) when three men were walking home towards Barnard’s Green after a night out.

As they reached the corner of Church Street and Albert Road South they passed a group of people, who started to verbally abuse them. They then assaulted one of the men, who is in his 50s, knocking him to the floor before stamping on and kicking him in the head.

This caused serious facial injuries and he needed extensive hospital treatment. Another of the men who attempted to come to his aid punched one of the assailants to the face in self-defence and he was also assaulted.

The group who attacked them were their early 20s and a mix of around five men and one woman.

Detective Sergeant Stuart Hawkeswood from South Worcestershire CID said: “This was a rather nasty and unprovoked assault against an older man. “I would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the assault or the group in the Barnard’s Green area in the early hours of Sunday morning. “One of the men was punched, so if you know of anyone who received a suspicious facial injury over the weekend, please get in touch.”
