OLDER people from Worcester met to discuss services that could improve their quality of life.
Residents aged 55 and over from Warndon, Tolladine, Brickfields, city centre, Barbourne and Rainbow Hill went to a meeting organised by the Worcester branch of the Worcestershire Neighbourhood Network (WiNN).
WiNN is a two-year pilot initiative funded by the Department of Health. It aims to find out whether providing preventative health services for older people have a long-term influence on people aged over 55. It also looks to help people with healthcare needs, allowing them to live independently in their own homes.
Jessica Harris, community development worker with WiNN, said the afternoon event was lively and interactive and allowed people to get together to discuss and recommend priorities for services that could improve the quality of life and well-being of older people.
She added: "Some of the ideas discussed included services to prevent acute crisis at home, help to manage low level mental health problems and health and safety awareness days.
"Everyone enjoyed the event."
The recommended services and projects will now inform a delivery plan for year two of the project. If accepted by the local management group the services could be up and running by April next year.
