VISITORS to Worcester Cathedral have been capturing the beauty of the building.

The cathedral’s photography competition attracted dozens of entries this year and 65 are now on display in a special exhibition in the Dean’s Chapel.

A total of 13 received commended or highly commended certificates of merit and the winners of each category were presented with their prizes at the weekend.

As well as first, second and third prizes in both the adult and children’s categories, the judges awarded special prizes to their favourite runners-up.

Kate Platt – a national and international photographic judge – awarded her prize to Serenity by Tony Woods, of Besford, near Pershore. Christopher Guy, the Cathedral’s photographer and archaeologist, gave his to Sunlight Angel by Jo Loney, from Watford. And Susan MacLeod – the cathedral’s operational manager – awarded hers to Palestinian Youngsters Searching for the Pink Giraffe, by Carl Freeman of Worcester.

She said: “We have been really pleased by the quality of this year entries. I love seeing the different views that people have of the Cathedral.

“We will have another competition next year and hope to get more young people entering and to have some really different perspectives.” The exhibition of winning photographs continues at the Dean’s Chapel of Worcester Cathedral until Sunday, November 3. Under 16 Category 1st Prize (£70) – Angel Dust by Wilf George, aged 10, of Malvern.

2nd Prize (£35) – New Life by Christian Evans, 15, of Worcester.

3rd Prize (£20) – The Shadows of Smoke by Christian Evans, 15, of Worcester.

Over 16 Category 1st Prize (£70) – The Prayer by John Fox, of Stourbridge.

2nd Prize (£35) – Richard Baxter Window by Christopher Turner, of Malvern.

3rd Prize (£20) – Awaiting Evensong by Ian Clarke, of Coventry.
