THREE intrepid students and one teacher from Pershore High School have been chosen to fly to Iceland next year for the national Scout Jamboree.
The group, along with eight others from Worcestershire, have been selected by the county Girlguiding branch to go on the trip in July 2014.
The girls, Clara Akiki, who is in year 10, Mollie Higginson, year 11, and Tessa Carr, of year 10, are active members of Girlguiding and give up their free time to help at Brownies and Guides while juggling their studies.
Now each of them has to raise £1,500 to go on the trip with the fund-raising activities including cake sales, ice cream sales, jewellery making, bag packing and chocolate bingo.
While in Iceland the girls will meet Guides and Scouts from all over the world and take part in many adventurous activities. They will also be able to visit some of Iceland’s famous landmarks, such as the Blue Lagoon.
The girls, along with their leaders, faced fierce competition to be selected for this once-in-a lifetime adventure.
Sam Gisborne, trip leader and a teacher at Pershore High School, has praised the girls’ fund-raising efforts.
“From the word go, the girls have been proactive in their fund-raising, pooling their talent and resources to maximise their return.
“The ice cream sale in July’s heatwave was a stroke of brilliance.”
