WINDS of up to 70mph are being predicted in Worcestershire on Monday.

The Met Office issued a severe weather warning this morning, predicting high winds travelling North East and potentially heavy rain.

Residents are being warned trees and buildings may be damaged by the winds and transport and power supplies may also be disrupted.

Drivers are also being advised to be aware of cross winds on exposed or high-level roads. High-sided vehicles may face particular problems.

A statement on the Met Office website said: “A strong, high-level jet is expected to engage warm low level air to give rise to a rapidly moving low pressure system later on Sunday.

“This is expected to run northeastwards, probably across England and Wales, with very strong winds on its southern and western flanks.

“There is the potential for gusts of over 70 mph, especially on exposed coasts, both in southwesterly winds ahead of the low and west to northwesterly winds behind it.”

The warning is valid from just after midnight on Monday, October 28 until 9pm the same day.
