THE three Chief Constables embroiled in the latest 'Plebgate' saga will appear before a Commons Select Committee next week.

The news comes as one of the officers concerned, West Mercia Chief Constable David Shaw, says he's staying quiet before answering the questions by Parliament.

The West Mercia force is under intense national scrutiny because of an investigation it held into the three police officers alleged to have given false accounts of what former government chief whip Andrew Mitchell told them in a private meeting.

The investigation concluded that there should be no action against the officers on the grounds of possible misconduct.

But the Independent Police Complaints Commission has challenged the conclusion, and a leaked letter from it to the Home Secretary says the verdict was altered between the draft version and the final report.

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Warwickshire, Ron Ball, has asked for a probe into this latest revelation of the changed conclusion.

The three Chief Constables will attend the Home Affairs Select Committee next Wednesday.
