A 70-year-old Worcester man is travelling to Romania to work with poverty stricken children.
Bernard George, of Larkspur Road, St Peter's, is visiting the Eastern European country with the Smiles Foundation.
Every year the Christian charity runs the Sacks of Smiles campaign and Mr George, who flies out on Saturday, December 16, will be working as a volunteer, filling christmas sacks with items such as clothing, toys and sweets, that have all been purchased in Romania. He and other mission workers will then give the sacks to abandoned and orphaned children who live in care homes.
The money to buy the items has been raised through holding coffee mornings and giving talks here in Worcester and Malvern.
Mr George: "These children are in such bad need we just feel we have to raise funds and go and help them.
"We often see visions of starving children in places such as Africa but they are in Europe as well."
When he returns on Saturday, December 23, Mr George will begin giving illustrated talks on what he experienced during the mission trip.
