AN epileptic man says he suffered a seizure alone on the side of a Worcester road as he tried to walk about five miles home after his bus didn’t turn up.

Wayne Clarke, aged 39, of Kilbury Drive, Worcester, who is recovering from brain surgery which he underwent earlier this year to remove a cancerous tumour, had been visiting friends in Kempsey last Wednesday and was waiting for the bus home at 7.05pm.

He says that despite arriving five minutes early and waiting for more than half-an-hour, the 364 bus service, run by First Group, did not appear and he was faced with the long walk home.

“I had epilepsy diagnosed in February this year and have a brain injury,” said Mr Clarke, a former HGV driver.

“I can’t get around without the bus service.

“I had grade two brain cancer and an operation in June. With my condition I have had to give my license back to the DVLA.

“I went to visit some of my friends in Kempsey (on Wednesday) and I always get the last bus home at 7.05pm.

“I was there from 7pm until 7.30pm and it never came. I was quite reliant on the bus turning up.

“I thought I will have to walk home.

“On the way I felt a bit unsure so I called my mum and my step dad, Pete, came to get me.

“I had got to the BP garage on the road from Worcester to Kempsey.

“He found me where I was having a seizure. The stress of it brought on a seizure.

“I could have rolled into the road and someone hit me. It is shocking. I want to find out what’s going on. I understand there could be break-downs but it was out of order, I waited for so long.”

However, First Group said the 364 service did operate and on-board equipment confirmed it was on time at the stops before and after Kempsey, but that nobody boarded it in Kempsey.

Ady Culpin, spokesman for First Group, said: “I am sorry to hear the gentleman was caused distress through missing the bus but I can confirm that the journey did operate, our analysis taken from the driver’s ticket machine clearly shows that customers boarded the bus either side of Kempsey at Baynell and St Peter’s but nobody actually boarded in Kempsey itself.”
