STUDENT midwives in Worcestershire are helping with a world record attempt aiming to improve health among children and pregnant women throughout the world.
Healthcare charity Motorcycle Outreach is aiming to set a world record for the amount of signatures on a scroll, sending it on a worldwide tour of hospitals and maternity units.
The project – dubbed Precious Cargo – was launched at Hampton Court Palace last month and will visit Worcestershire Royal Hospital on Saturday, October 12.
Student midwife Sophie Jackson will be on hand to welcome the scroll to the county.
She said: “We got involved in Precious Cargo because we thought it was a fantastic opportunity to be part of raising the profile of such a worthwhile charity, while breaking a UK and US world record and forging links between the hospitals and their student midwives.
“It is also exciting that out of the current 30 hospitals being visited in the county that the scroll is visiting two of the hospitals in Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, and that in itself is a huge honour.”
Motorcycle Outreach works in developing countries providing and maintaining motorcycles for healthcare workers, allowing them to provide pro-per care to people in remote villages.
The Precious Cargo project aims to raise funds to allow the organisation to expand its operations. For more information on the project visit precious-cargo.org.
