A TALENTED ballet dancer received a full scholarship and the chance to perform to sold-out crowds after attending a summer school.
Georgia Mucklow from Cradley, attended Midland Theatre Ballet’s summer school at the Birmingham Hippodrome and was invited to join the cast of their next production The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe as well as a full scholarship worth £250 a term.
Lisa Hollinshead, the school’s artistic director, said Georgia, aged 11, stood out from the rest of the dancers.
“There were many talented dancers at the Summer School however our teachers James Wilkie (the Royal Ballet) and Ruth Brill (Birm-ingham Royal Ballet) felt Georgia showed all round potential, enthusiasm and commitment to her dancing,” she said. “I am really looking forward to her joining the cast next term.”
Georgia said the best part of the summer school was having visiting teachers from the London Royal Ballet.
She said: “They were really inspiring for you because they are like your mentor and who you aspire to be.”
She plans to be a professional dancer but wants to keep her education going so she can teach when she finishes her dancing career.
The Malvern St James school pupil is taught by Rebecca Sloan-Kirton from Malvern Dance, dances with Jago Performers from Worcester who recently did Billy Elliot at Malvern Theatres, and is a junior associate of the Royal Ballet School in Birmingham.
Kate Mucklow, Georgia’s mother, said Georgia started dancing at Cecilia Hall Dance Centre on Church Street in Malvern before moving on to several schools in Worcester when her talent was clear.
“She started dancing at two-and-a-half, as soon as she was out of nappies,” she said.
“Her Godfather gave her a pony for her christening but it soon became apparent where her preference lay.
“Georgia loved the summer school at Midland Theatre Ballet. She already attends the junior associates at the Royal Ballet but the summer school included other styles of dance, such as jazz, which Georgia loves plus, they were joined by stars of the London Royal Ballet which made the week really special.”
She will receive both class and rehearsal lessons with the new school when she joins in the September term to get her and the rest of the cast ready to perform to the kind of standard the school’s previous sold-out shows have demanded in the spring.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe will be showing on April 3 and 4, with a matinee and evening show on April 5 at the Crescent Theatre in Birmingham.
Tickets will go on sale in January 2014 from the school’s website, midland theatreballet.co.uk. They will also be available from the theatre’s box office which can be contacted on 0121 6435858.
