A FUND-RAISING Christmas fair in Powick has been hailed a huge success by organisers after raising just over £300 for charity.

The event took place at Powick parish hall, off Malvern Road, in the village near Worcester and about 300 people turned up on the day.

Attractions included more than 20 stalls selling a variety of crafts, gifts including food and wine hampers, hand-made knitwear and gifts, hand-made jewellery and beauty products and candles. There were also refreshments including mince pies and cakes on sale, a grand raffle and visits from Father Christmas.

Youngsters were also able to show off their creative talents taking part in an art competition, with entry forms having been given to all Powick and Callow End primary school children prior to the event.

Organiser Louise Carter, from Collett's Green, near Powick, said she was delighted with how it had gone and hoped to make it an annual event.

She added: "It went really well and we were really pleased with the local support not only from the stallholders, who were mostly local, but everybody who turned out as well.

"Everybody had a great time, both old and young alike," she said.

The event was held at the end of last month and proceeds will be split between St Peter's Church in the village and the Powick Playing Fields - both of which will use the money for individual projects.
