A COUPLE have become the second generation of their family to have their golden wedding anniversary featured in your Worcester News.
A number of years ago, the paper – then called the Evening News – reported Bill and Nancy Dixon were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
Now the couple’s daughter Susan Cole and her husband Roger, both aged 72, from Kempsey celebrated half a century of marriage on Saturday.
Mrs Cole – who discovered the clipping (pictured) when she visited her late grandmother’s house in Yorkshire to pick up some items – said she had moved to the Worcester area when she was just five years old and met Roger, a structural engineer, in 1960. “We met when I went to a dance,” she said.
“We met on the dance floor and we still love dancing.”
They were married in 1963 and moved to their current home in 1964, later becoming proud parents of daughters Alison, Julie and Rebecca.
Former Ministry of Defence housing officer Mrs Cole said the secret to a long romance was “a lot of give and take”. “You really have to do your own thing,” she said. “Since the children have grown up and disappeared we still do things together but our interests are still very separate.”
The two, who are also grandparents to three grandchildren, are celebrating the milestone with a celebration with their family.
