AN “inspirational” pensioner who lost his wife to a stroke is organising a fish and chip supper to help raise funds for stroke survivors.
Charlie Hodges, aged 71, whose wife Margaret died 11 years ago after suffering a stroke, is hosting the fundraiser at Rushwick Village Hall, near Worcester, at 7pm on Saturday, October 19.
More than 11,000 people in the West Midlands suffer a stroke every year and nationally there are more than 120,000 people living with the effects of a stroke.
Mr Hodges, of Newland Crescent, St John’s, Worcester, is a long-term supporter of the Stroke Association’s work with stroke survivors, raising thousands of pounds for the cause.
A fish and chip supper he held at the same venue last year raised £700 and he is hoping to repeat that success this time around.
“I hope as many people as possible can come along to help support the Stroke Association,” he said. “It’s promising to be a fun evening with a quiz, a raffle and live entertainment, as well as a fabulous fish and chip supper.”
Mr Hodges also used his 70th birthday party last year to raise money for the charity. He asked guests for donations instead of presents and raised more than £500.
Claire Benfield, regional fund-raiser for the Stroke Association, said: “Over the years he has raised thousands of pounds for the Stroke Association, and he’s an inspiration to many.
“We’re all looking forward to a fantastic evening hosted by Charlie.”
Tickets cost £12.50. For further information or to book, call 01905 421324.
