A GP from Worcester will showcase her talent as an amateur musician at a prestigious regional venue.

Louise Remedios is a general practitioner at Whiteacres Medical Centre, Sandy’s Road, Malvern, by day and a performer with the European Doctors Orchestra by night.

The 34-year-old, who lives in Warndon Villages, has been playing the violin since she was nine and joined the orchestra, which is formed of medical professionals, in 2004. Having performed in Berlin earlier this year, she is now preparing to play in Birmingham’s Town Hall on Sunday, November 24.

Dr Remedios said: “I am thrilled that the orchestra will be coming to the West Midlands this year and that we have the opportunity to play in the magnificent town hall in Birmingham. I am especially excited about Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, it is such an iconic piece.”

The concert, titled The Doctor’s Guide to the Galaxy, will feature Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, Bernstein’s Candide Overture, The Planets by Gustav Holst and Fandangle by the Malvern-based composer Alec Roth.

The orchestra draws on the talents of about 100 doctors from the UK as well as Germany, Switzerland, Romania, Hungary, Norway, Austria, Poland, Italy, Sweden and Spain. It stages two concerts each year – one in the UK and the other in a European city, with its inaugural concert being held at the Blackheath Concert Halls in London in 2004.

Tickets for the Birmingham concert are £15 (concessions £12). It is in aid of the Children’s Hand and Arm Service (CHARMS) at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. For details, see europeandoctorsorchestra.com.
