A WOMAN is ensuring her late father’s legacy lives on by raising enough cash to make a difference to an impoverished overseas community.

More than £500 raised by Sharon Multani, of Worces-ter, will go towards setting up a water well in Sri Lanka.

She says the Well to Do project will be a fitting tribute to her dad Geoffrey Colebrook, who died last year aged 84 and served in the Asian country during the Second World War.

Mr Colebrook used to live in Barnes Way, off Bath Road, Worcester. The money was collected by Mrs Multani’s fund-raising which included the selling of hand-knitted slippers and fridge magnets at a city mosque.

“I was knitting slippers for people and thought I might be able to raise some money. I saved up £550,” said Mrs Multani, who is 53 and lives in Warndon.

“The well will be in Sri Lanka although I’m not sure in which part yet. “My father was stationed there during the war, when it was called Ceylon. “It’s a legacy to him. Sri Lanka was dear to his heart.

“I would like to thank the Tallow Hill mosque for allowing me to sell my fridge magnets after Friday prayer.

“They were really helpful and I’m so thankful.

“I thought of all the diff-erent charities out there and settled on the water idea. “Without water, you can’t live.”

She said the well should be up-and-running in about nine months’ time.
