A ROAD which was closed after a man sustained serious head injuries after crashing a quad bike has been reopened.

The road reopened at 4.50pm after police and highway crews investigated and cleaned up the section of the A456 in Rock, Clows Top.

The rider of the quad bike was not wearing a helmet, according to West Midlands Ambulance Service, and was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews were called to reports of a man who had fallen from a quad bike. “The man, who was not wearing a helmet, had suffered a serious head injury. Due to the nature of his injury, the man was given an anaesthetic at the scene and was fully immobilised before being airlifted to the major trauma centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further assessment and specialist treatment.

“The hospital was pre-alerted to the arrival of the man and of his injuries.

“No one else was injured in this incident.”

Police were called to the incident on Rectory Lane, near The Colliers Arms pub, just before 1.30pm this afternoon, and an ambulance and two air ambulances from Strensham and Cosford attended.
