I ’M not sure who watches Big Brother any more but there must be someone as it still appears among the TV listings year in, year out.
At the moment, Celebrity Big Brother is well under way and each day, all self-respecting tabloids are splashing the so-called stars all over the gossip pages.
Last week, the story I couldn’t seem to get away from is Vicky Entwistle, better known as Janice Battersby in Coronation Street, and her apparent hatred of fellow housemate and Geordie Shore star, Charlotte Crosby.
For those of you who have never seen the reality TV show Geordie Shore, it features a house where people get drunk under the watchful eye of cameras and often make fools of themselves.
Sound familiar?
Well, not according to Vicky, who has decided that our country, the nation of Great Britain, has lost track if it idealises reality TV stars who do nothing but reveal themselves and get drunk.
She has even threatened to leave the UK and head for the classier country of Spain with her “fella” if Charlotte wins the show.
In many ways, most of us would agree. We shouldn’t encourage endless binge drinking, flashing, nudity and vulgar language on TV for our own entertainment – no matter how amusing it may be.
But perhaps the former soap star would be wise to take a good, long look in the mirror hanging inside her glass house before she starts throwing stones.
Both of these women are airing their dirty laundry, both metaphorically and literally, on national TV.
Forty-four-year-old Vicky and Charlotte, aged 23, would do well to watch their behaviour when they leave the house. We should all be so lucky as to have that luxury after a few too many.
They have the chance and should grab it with both hands.
Perhaps more so Vicky.
She is more than two decades the senior and still blasted the younger ‘celebrity’ with some fairly choice language, even boasting: “I could eat that girl for breakfast.”
This is not the behaviour of a role model, or the reaction she should have had as the more mature housemate.
In my view neither woman should be getting too high and mighty, because their bank balances may be looking up as a result of their appearance on Celebrity Big Brother 2013, but I doubt either will be looked up to by the Great British public
