PLANS for a £600,000 investment in village sewers will be unveiled to residents this week.

Staff at water provider Severn Trent are inviting people living in Littleworth, near Worcester, to find out more about its project to connect 85 per cent of homes to its sewer system at a drop-in session at Norton Parish Hall tomorrow from 1pm to 6.30pm.

The investment, by Severn Trent working in partnership with Worcestershire County Council, is expected to deliver “significant environmental improvements” by removing the risk of pollution and odour from the existing private septic tanks and soakaways.

The improvements will be carried out by the company’s contract partners, NMCNomenca, and are due to start on Monday, September 23. Work will involve the temporary closure of Wadborough Road until mid-December.

Diversions will be in place and an extra bus service will be arranged to help make travel easier for villagers.

Ian Woodward, programme engineer at Severn Trent Water, said: “About 85 per cent of homes set to benefit from our £600,000 investment have indicated they’ll take up the offer to connect. The improvements will see us construct a new pumping station and install about 800 metres of sewers and pipes in the village.

“This is a significant investment, which will provide modern sewers and drainage to Littleworth. It will also help to protect the local environment from pollution. We’re pleased with the take-up of our offer and will do all we can to keep disruption to a minimum.

“The council will also be improving road drainage at the same time and our improvements are expected to be complete by the end of March 2014.

“We won’t be here for long, but the benefits to residents and the environment will.”
