STATE-of-the-art technology is helping students through their studies thanks in part to a Worcester-based business.
Internet services provider, names.co.uk, has joined forces with Worcester College of Technology as part of a new Support Local Education scheme.
Through the project, the company has helped revamp and transform the ICT department’s base into the college’s new Centre of Digital Excellence.
Students can now access top-of-the-range equipment, including high-end Dell servers, server racks and switches. Mark Wright, curriculum manager at the centre, said the technology was putting the college at the forefront of development.
“We’re very excited and students are already benefiting from the cutting edge hardware and resources [names.co.uk] has provided for our brand new computer suites and labs,” he said.
“As a business at the forefront of technological development, names.co.uk is helping introduce us to the latest innovative advancements in areas such as graphic design, mobile app development, games programming, network solutions, cloud computing through to the latest cyber security developments.”
Abhinav Mathur, operational marketing manager at names.co.uk, that has a base at Perdiswell Park, said many staff at the business were happy to establish a link with the college.
“Many of our employees attended Worcester College of Technology in the past and this partnership really strengthens the link between us,” he said.
“The staff and students are so energised, we can’t wait to get more involved and lend a hand wherever possible.”
From this month, staff from names.co.uk will be providing guest lectures at the college and will also present at open days to introduce potential future employees to the company.
Lecturer James Duckhouse said: “It’s fantastic, not only have names.co.uk supplied us with some great equipment, they’re continuing to give us support that will keep us up to date with the latest developments in technology.”
