FOUR generations of the same family have united to encourage others to join them in shining a light on the battle against cancer.
Retired textiles teacher Sue Chance, of Worcester, has survived breast and cervical cancer in the last six years.
Her daughter, Sarah Milnes, took part in this summer’s Race For Life at Pitchcroft racecourse along with her 10-year-old daughter Tiany in honour of her victories and to help others in their battles. Now Sue herself has also up.
Not content with entrants spanning three generations, a fourth, in the form of Sue’s four-year-old great-grandaughter Amber Pettifer, will now take part in the Race For Twilight event at the racecourse on October 18.
Sue said: “Sarah rang one day and told me she’d entered me into Race for Life. I nearly fainted. My first reaction was to say I couldn’t possibly do it but she talked me into it and now I’m glad she did.”
Organisers of the event are urging women to sign up, collect sponsorship and complete the five-kilometre course in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Sue had breast cancer diagnosed in 2007 and underwent surgery to remove the lump, followed by radiotherapy.
In 2009, she had cervical cancer diagnosed and underwent a hysterectomy.
Tiany said: “If it weren’t for scientists doing research my grandma might not be here today.
“That’s why I want to invite girls of all ages to join us and sign up for Race for Life Twilight.”
Cancer Research UK event manager Tracey Duffy said: “Twilight promises all the passion and camaraderie of Race for Life but with the added excitement of fund-raising under the stars.”
Twilight For Life at Worcester Racecourse is on Friday, October 18, starting at 7pm.
