WOMEN in Worcester are being urged to put cancer in the dark by taking their chance to shine in a night-time charity challenge.
Cancer Research UK is hosting its new, 5km women-only event Race for Life Twilight at Worcester Racecourse on Friday, October 18.
Kelly Rumble, Cancer Research UK’s Worcester events manager, encouraged fund-raisers to make it a night to remember by wearing dazzling attire.
She said: “We’re really excited about launching Race for Life Twilight in Worcester.
“We’re holding this exhilarating new event for the first time in Worcestershire and we’ve chosen the racecourse and Pitchcroft as our first location because we believe our local supporters will really get behind it.
“Race for Life Twilight is an amazing way to celebrate life but also remember those who have been lost to the disease.
“Light is a powerful symbol of hope so we want to see everyone with fairy lights and glow sticks and as many sequinned, spangly outfits as possible.”
She said the event would complement the more established Race For Life fund-raiser, which was held at the same venue earlier this summer.
“Twilight promises all the fun and camaraderie of Race for Life but with the added excitement of a fund-raising experience under the stars,” Mrs Rumble said.
“Just like Race for Life, it’s not about being fit or fast. Instead it’s a celebration of unity in our fight against all cancers.
“Women can do the event at their own pace and walk, run or even dance their way around the course if they prefer.”
Organisers hope 1,000 women will take part in Race for Life Twilight and help raise £55,000. To enter, go to raceforlife.org or call 08456 006050.
