A LAND Rover enthusiast was given cardiac pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by a quick-thinking team of first aiders when he suffered a cardiac arrest at the annual car event in Ledbury.

The victim remains in hospital in critical condition after suffering heart failure on the last morning of camping at the Eastnor Land Rover Show, at Deer Park, within the grounds of Eastnor Castle in Ledbury.

An ambulance, a responder paramedic and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham, together with a responder paramedic from South Western Ambulance Service, attended the scene shortly before 9am on Monday to find the man in cardiac arrest being given CPR. The CPR was administered by castle first-aiders Brett Gutteridge and a colleague.

“They did really well as it was quite a difficult situation,” said Rover Show organiser Mark Woodward.

“They were there straight away and the air ambulance turned up very quickly, too.”

A ‘thank you’ was posted on the event’s facebook page by a member of the man’s family, thanking those who helped him.

She said: “A big thank you to everyone still there to help on bank holiday Monday, especially the chap whohelped us give him a fighting chance yesterday. He suffered a massive heart attack and is currently still extremely critically ill in Worcestershire Royal hospital.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the man’s heart had to be shocked four times before it restarted and he began to breathe again.
