A GIRL will undergo a first-of-a-lifetime experience in a bid to raise much-needed charity cash – while making a hair-raising donation.
Darcie Young, from Hallow, near Worcester, is preparing to have her flowing locks cut for the very first time – and hopes a hairdresser will come forward for the chop.
The seven-year-old, a pupil at Hallow Primary School, has never had her hair cut, but is now preparing to have 21 inches snipped off in aid of The Little Princess Trust, a charity which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.
Darcie’s mum, Rachael, aged 30, said her daughter was also hoping to raise £350 in sponsorship for the charity ahead of the haircut.
“I had it done a few years ago and now she wants to do the same,” she said.
“I’m going to be in tears when it gets cut but when she said it was for children with cancer, I couldn’t say no.”
Dog breeder Mrs Young – who also has two other children, Finlay, aged nine, and Arwin, aged three – said she hoped a hairdresser from the Worcester area would offer to cut Darcie’s hair for free.
“Obviously, if we don’t have to pay for the haircut that’s more we can give to charity,” she said.
Meanwhile, Darcie said she was excited to have her hair cut for the very first time and was not nervous about taking to the chair in aid of the good cause.
The charity, which receives no formal funding, provides real-hair wigs for boys and girls with cancer and have lost their hair through their treatment, with each wig costing about £350.
