A MAN was hit on the head with a rubbish bin when he was walking home through Worcester city centre.

The 19-year-old victim was walking in the Lowesmoor area near the Asda supermarket when he was assaulted at about 9.45pm on Friday.

He had just left McDonald's in The Foregate and had walked past Costa Coffee. As he neared Asda, he was approached from behind by a youth and a man who hit him with a metal object, thought to be a rubbish bin, on the back of the head.

He managed to get away and ran through the Asda car park on to Lowesmoor where he called police from Checkett’s newsagents.

The offenders stood outside, goading the victim, and waiting for him to come out but fled when his brother arrived to take him home.

The victim did not know the offenders but believes they were involved in a disorder outside McDonald's about half an hour earlier.

The youth was white, aged about 16, and wearing a pink shirt and beige chinos. He had light brown hair and a distinct quiff. The man was in his 40s, and was casually dressed in a grey shirt.

The victim sustained swelling to his ear and forehead, and grazes and scratches across his neck, but did not require medical treatment.
