A NEW police sergeant who has taken over responsibility for the eastern side of Worcester has promised a tough stance on drug-related crime.

Sgt Helen Wain now leads the Safer Neighbourhood Teams for Warndon, Warndon Villages, Gorse Hill, Nunnery and Rainbow Hill.

Sgt Wain, who is originally from Manchester, moved to Worcestershire nine years ago when she first became a police officer and, despite living in and around Worcester for some years, this is the first time she has worked in the city.

She was promoted to sergeant five years ago and most of her roles have been in north Worcestershire. She worked in Redditch in CID and custody and as a response officer in Bromsgrove.

She said: “I lived in Worcester for seven years so I know it very well. It’s a really positive change for me and I’m looking forward to getting to know the patch as a police officer as well as a resident.

"I'm going to be working hard to continue the efforts of my teams to get involved with the local communities and get to know the key people at our partner agencies so we can provide the best service we can.

"I plan to take a robust stance when tackling the main policing problems we face, such as those caused by drug abuse in the local community and the harm caused by drug dealing, whether by local people or those coming into the area.
