A TEENAGER threw glass coffee jars at a security guard who had stopped her boyfriend as they went on a thieving spree to fund their drug addiction.

Siobhan Burton pleaded guilty to beating Kahlil Smith after he tried to stop her boyfriend Darren Parkinson, both of Dent Close, off Wyld’s Lane, Worcester, from leaving Aldi with £62.16 of coffee in a cardboard container.

Burton, aged 19, and Parkinson, 31, both pleaded guilty to stealing the coffee as well as £10 of food from Poundland and £6.38 of food from B&M Bargains on Tuesday, July 30.

Mark Johnson, prosecuting, told the court they had stolen the items to pay an outstanding £135 drug debt after they had become addicted to the synthetic stimulant Mephadrone – known by the street names Mcat or Meow Meow.

He told Worcester Magistrates Court the pair had entered the store at about 3pm and a struggle ensued as they tried to leave without paying for the coffee.

Burton also encouraged the couple’s dog to intimidate Mr Smith.

Mr Johnson said: “She started to throw the coffee jars toward the security guard which shattered, leaving broken glass on the ground.

“Mr Parkinson and Mr Smith ended up with cuts on their hands and Mr Parkinson was taken to hospital to have them treated.”

The rest of the stolen items were discovered when police searched their rucksack.

CCTV footage at B&M Bargains showed them taking items and putting them in a bag.

Burton admitted throwing three jars at the guard, two of which hit their target and a third smashing on the ground.

Sabiha Pathan, for Parkinson, said that he had started using the drug after a road accident left him with life-threatening injuries.

He suffers with blackouts, memory loss and significant fitting to the stage that he has to be hospitalised, the court was told.

“Now he has a life of misery and lives day to day,” she said.

“He was finding it difficult coping when it was suggested he tried Mcat to ease the symptoms.”

Mr Johnson said that Burton had no previous convictions but two matters had been dealt with by way of disposal.

Sentencing was adjourned until Wednesday to allow for probation reports and Burton and Parkinson were both released on conditional bail.
