ONE of the country’s finest musicians will perform this evening as the Worcester and St Peter’s festivals combine.
Shulah Oliver, originally from Worcester, returns to her home city for a concert to launch the St Peter’s Festival, with the performance also being part of the Worcester event’s programme.
Described by organisers as “one of Worcester’s finest exports”, the renowned violinist and Royal College of Music graduate will perform at St Peter’s Baptist Church from 7.30pm until 9.45pm.
A spokesman for the event said: “Shulah Oliver presents a phenomenal programme that will delight and entertain audiences of all ages.
“Shulah is renowned as one of the country’s finest musicians and regularly appears with leading orchestras and quartets.”
Tickets to the concert cost £10.
Elsewhere, the festival continues with a raft of events at city venues.
Among them will be the Battle of Worcester Walks, which give visitors the chance to soak up the historic event while taking in some of the Faithful City’s scenery.
Led by a Battle of Worcester Society guide, the walks will give a unique insight into the events of more than 360 years ago which changed the historical, political and social landscape of not only the UK, but the USA and other countries.
The hour-long walk is free and starts at the Guildhall at 1pm.
At Huntingdon Hall, fans of the 1970s in particular will be in for a treat, with a performance showcasing the music of the Carpenters.
Voice Of The Heart, which begins at 8pm, is a two-hour show encompassing the back catalogue of Richard and Karen Carpenter.
Hits such as Yesterday Once More, Goodbye To Love and Close To You will be at the heart of the show, with tickets costing £18.50.
And for those who prefer a more frightening experience, a Historic Ghost Walk of Worcester promises to show participants the spookier side to the city.
“Follow our guide into deep, dark pockets of Worcester and discover a side to the Faithful City you never knew existed – through gates normally locked and doors usually bolted, to hear of ghostly legend and historical facts,” said a walk spokesman.
Places on the walk cost £8.50 and anyone wishing to take part should meet at the Elgar statue at 9pm. The walk runs until 10.30pm.
