A HOUSING developer claims most people living in part of the new Diglis development in Worcester support a clampdown on parking in the area.
As previously reported motorists parked ‘illegally’ around the Diglis Water development have started to be issued with parking tickets. The site, which was developed by Taylor Wimp-ey, is managed by Mainstay Group Ltd.
Homes in the area are issued with one allocated parking space and residents parking permits, which allow them to park in a limited number of on-road spaces.
But many of the homes are now occupied by two or more vehicle owners.
Damon Amess, who has a shared ownership flat at the Diglis Water canalside development, has received two parking fines totalling £120 since the start of the month because there are two car owners living at the property and they have only been allocated one parking permit between them. He said: “We have just received two parking charges. “We only have one parking permit and have two cars – this is a ridiculous situation that we are being fined for parking at our home.
“Mainstay said they’d inform us when the passes were becoming operational. We are awaiting a second residents parking permit from them but so far, nothing.”
Mr Amess also said another of his neighbours was also having trouble with parking as they had received a parking permit for a space which didn’t exist yet.
A spokesman for the developer said: “A parking permit system has been introduced at Diglis Water and will be monitored over time – however, a site-wide survey undertaken by Taylor Wimpey has shown that the vast majority of residents are in favour of the scheme. “In the meantime, Taylor Wimpey residents have been issued with residential and visitor permits.”
Gill Rawlings, executive assistant to Mainstay managing director, said: “Overall our customers are happy with the parking regulations that have been put in place.
“I would, however, like to say that if anyone has any particular issues that they wish to discuss, please do contact a member of the Mainstay property team. Our property managers are always happy to meet or discuss with customers to try and resolve any issues. “We ultimately want our customers to be happy in their homes.”
