A DRUNK man with a history of violence smashed up a car and a motorbike and then tried to make a getaway in his dad’s car.
William Spencer, of Canterbury Road, Ronkswood, Worcester, admitted drink-driving, using a car without insurance and criminal damage when he appeared before magistrates in Worcester.
The 22-year-old roofer drove a Vauxhall Frontera, which he was not insured to drive, on Tolladine Road, on July 28.
A breath test revealed 64mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, nearly twice the limit of 35mcg after already being convicted of drink-driving in 2010. The same day he deliberately damaged a Vauxhall Zafira and a Yamaha YZF R1 belonging to Wayne Stollard who had been involved in an argument with his friend, the court was told.
Sarah Stock, prosecuting, said the incidents happened after midnight, beginning outside Westminster Road, Ronkswood, when police were called to reports of disorder involving 30 people.
An officer was approached by Mr Stollard who was the victim of the criminal damage after two vehicles, a car and a motorbike, parked in front of his house were damaged.
Mr Stollard said he had heard a bang, gone to investigate and had seen Spencer running away.
His motorbike had also been pushed over onto his car, causing damage to both.
Spencer was later stopped by police driving along Tolladine Road.
Mrs Stock said: “The car had no lights on and was seen to be mounting the pavement kerb and slewing across the road.”
In police interview he said he had been drinking all day.
“He had gone into somebody’s garden, picked up a golf-ball-sized stone and thrown it into the car and pushed over the motorbike,” Mrs Stock said.
“He then got in his father’s car and drove off.”
Mrs Stock requested compensation of £1,547.47 for the motorbike and £300 for the insurance excess on the bike.
Ruth Edwards, defending, said it was Spencer’s friend, who had not been charged with anything, who had been “turning the handle”, although Spencer did not blame him.
She said: “Since February last year he has been keeping his nose clean. That comes down to his new partner and, a couple of months ago, a new baby daughter. He’s very sorry for what he did.”
Spencer was given a 12-month community order, ordered to go to an adult attendance centre for 15 hours which will include anger management and training about alcohol misuse.
He will also be banned from driving for 36 months and ordered to pay £1,500 compensation, £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
A six-month restraining order was issued preventing him having contact, directly or indirectly, with Mr Stollard or going within 100 metres of his home.
