LUCKY competition winners were presented with cases of ale, cider and free entry into Worcester’s beer festival thanks to your Worcester News.

The three-day beer bonanza kicked off at Pitchcroft racecourse on Thursday and ale fans are gearing up for today’s final day ahead of last orders this evening.

Co-organiser Bill Ottaway was on hand to welcome the competition winners and present them with their prizes.

The first went to Jenny Watkins, of St Johns, who was awarded a 10-litre box of cider from Oliver’s Cider and Perry after correctly saying there would be more than 200 drinks at the festival.

She said: “I am looking forward to trying it. I knew the answer to the question because I come here every year.

“I was shocked when I won. I will be back over the weekend and my husband is a volunteer here as well.”

The second winner, Jody Webb, of East Street, Arboretum, Worcester, took home a selection of beer from Pope’s but will also get a tour of the brewery and a barrel of beer, equalling 40 pints.

He said: “I have been to the festival before and I enjoy it. I was really pleased to win the beer.”

Last year the festival attracted 13,250 people and Mr Ottaway said he hoped this year’s event would see about 14,000 people through the gates.
