WORCESTER’S key role in keeping Great Britain well dressed will be celebrated with a packed day of events this month.
Kays at the Hive on Saturday, July 20, is inspired by the city’s famous clothing catalogue company.
The firm, which was based in Worcester from 1794, was one of the city’s biggest employers until its last depot closed in 2007.
The highlight of the event at Worcester’s new library and history centre will be a colourful catwalk show, featuring the looks and sounds of the 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. There will also be a talk on life at the firm given by former employee Bernard Mills, a bus tour around the company’s old buildings and a new play by Phil Ormrod based on the stories of people who worked at Kays. The day will be rounded off with a silent disco.
County arts officer Steve Wilson said: “This is going to be one of the most exciting arts events in the year and with interest and demand high we urge you not to miss out. Watch or strut your stuff at Kays at the Hive.”
Tickets cost £5 for one event, £8 for two or £10 for three. The fashion show and disco are both free, but tickets still need to be booked.
