TWO UKIP councillors have made an historic breakthrough at Worcestershire County Council - with the party making gains for the first time ever.
In Stourport Eric Kitson pulled in 1,385 votes, defeating John Thomas, from Independent Community and Health Concern (ICHC), while in St Mary’s Tory Nathan Desmond lost by 87 votes to UKIP’s Anthony Baker.
The breakthrough is massive boost for the party, which polled some huge votes across the county, including 4,207 in Worcester, 18 per cent of the overall share.
Carl Humphries, who runs UKIP’s Worcester and Mid-Worcestershire branches, said: “We are absolutely delighted - this sends a clear message to David Cameron.
“People are fed up and want to see change, we have been working hard getting people into wards and this is the result.”
The count has finished in Worcester, where Green Matthew Jenkins defeated veteran Tory Councillor Mary Drinkwater in St Stephen, while Tory Allah Ditta lost his Rainbow Hill seat to Labour's Paul Denham.
Other results are still filtering in - more follows.
