I have been the County Councillor for the Warndon Parish area since 2009 and a City Councillor for seven years. My wife Fran and I moved to Warndon Villages in 1996, when I was still the Assistant Chief Officer of Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service. Our son and daughter have married and moved away with their work but we’re committed to the place, which has become our home. I am also a governor at Lyppard Grange Primary School, a local Duckworth Trust environment coordinator and Fran and I are involved with the Worcester Leg Club – which provides social activities for people with chronic leg ailments.
As the County Councillor I am chairman of the committee which monitors health services and a member of the planning committee, as well as being on the board which keeps an eye on the county’s big decisions. At the city I am responsible for the finances and ensuring value for money. My work has also included getting faster broadband speeds for the Villages.
You will know that even in these difficult times Warndon Villages has comparatively high employment levels, high earnings per household and a low crime rate. That does not mean I cannot share the community’s concerns about national political issues. However, I trust voters will not to be taken in by wild scare stories about matters not under the county council’s control, because if that did happen we could end up with little or no effective local representation.
As a Conservative I am a member of the only group determined to keeping council tax down. I am also dedicated to supporting local community organisations like the schools, Lyppard Centre and churches which are vital to the fabric of the Villages. In addition I’ll work with the Parish Council on environment litter and dog mess problems and I maintain strong links with key employers, particularly on Shires Business Park.
In my spare time I play golf (not very well) and share an occasional success with a Sunday pub quiz team at the Lyppards.
