I am proud to be standing for Labour in Battenhall and St Peter’s. It’s the place I grew up in and I have life-long connections here. My mother still lives in Battenhall. I had a full career in cities and towns in the north of England and, after retiring, I am really pleased to have moved back to my home city and to commit myself to local affairs here. I have become a trustee of a local community charity and I chair an environmental group looking at energy issues for the residents of Worcester.
I know how local government works and what it means to local people, especially the county services of education and social services. I know the troubles and stresses that the poor and needy are facing under this Tory led government, which is driving the country into triple-dip recession. I know that Worcestershire would do better under Labour.
I have a wide range of experience in town planning, waste management, engineering and economic development, all of which will be useful for the County Council!
In particular I would fight for improvements to the transport system, which is presently strangling the city. I would be an active supporter of environmental issues, including protecting the best countryside, like Middle Battenhall Farm. I would work with local schools to help them cope with the changes in the education system.
Voting Labour on 2nd May will send a strong message to the Tories, locally and nationally: we’ve had enough of their callous cuts to essential services, their attacks on the poor, and their support for the rich with tax cuts for millionaires.
