BROKEN glass was left behind by council contractors when they cleared a pile of rubbish which had been illegally fly-tipped.

After four months of “ping-pong” between two local authorities over responsibility for the rubbish dumped in Peopleton’s Barrel Bridge Lane, it was finally cleared but villagers were unhappy to find a large amount of potentially dangerous glass left at the site.

Michael James, of Peopleton, said: “Unfortunately they did not remove a considerable amount of broken sheet glass and smashed bottles. “Myself and John Sargeant cleared the debris. There was a lot there.

“There is no excuse for leaving it there right in the farm gate way, there were sheep in that field.”

Councillor David Wall, chairman of Peopleton Parish Council, said: “As a parish council we became aware this anti-social tipping had taken place about four months ago and we contacted the district council. “It then became apparent it had become a ping- pong match between Wychavon District Council and Worcestershire County Council.

“We have been extremely frustrated by the lack of action between the two authorities but were pleased the clean-up happened. It’s a very popular walk for parishioners from the village.”

Worcestershire County Council said they would visit the site to ensure a complete job had been carried out.

Jon Fraser, Worcestershire County Council’s Highways manager, said: “We have been working with the district council and have arranged for someone to attend the site and clear up any remaining debris.”
