A YOUNG boy suffered ankle and leg injuries after he was hit by a car.

The incident happened at the junction of Shrubbery Road and Stonebow Road in Drakes Broughton, near Pershore, at 3.50pm yesterday.

The boy, who is about 11-years-old, was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

Ambulance bosses are now calling on children and drivers to remember each other as a result of the incident.

WMAS director of nursing and quality, Sandy Brown, said: “If you are a parent, please take the time to talk to your children about making sure they go to school safely and are aware of vehicles when they are playing outside.

“Equally, if you are a driver, please be especially mindful of children being about at the beginning and end of the school day. The reality is that some youngsters do walk out from between parked cars without a care in the world which can have tragic consequences.

“If everyone looks out for each other, then there is a better chance that we as an ambulance service will have fewer incidents such as those above to deal with.”
